(Genesis 12:1-5, NIV) “The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.”

(Hebrews 11:8, NIV) “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going”

1.  Faith Hears God’s Voice

(John 10:27, NIV) “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

(Hebrews 1:1-2, NIV) “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.”

  • Hearing God’s voice settles insecurity

2.  Faith Remembers God’s Promise

(Hebrews 10:23, NIV) “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

(Philippians 1:6, NIV) “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”

  • Remembering God’s promise settles doubt

3.  Faith Responds with Courage

(Joshua 1:7, NIV) “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go”

(2 Corinthians 5:14, NIV) “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died”

(Matthew 28:20b, NIV) “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

(Hebrews 13:5b, NIV) “God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

  • Courage is confidence in a present God which settles fear
