1.  Confront False Doctrine

 

(1 Timothy 4:1–5, NLT) “Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.

 

a.  Wrong to be married

 

b.  Wrong to eat certain foods

 

c.  God created sex within marriage and food to be received with thanksgiving

 

 

2.  Train Yourself to be Godly

 

(1 Timothy 4:6–10, NLT) “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.

 

a.  A worthy servant of Christ Jesus Is nourished by the…

  •  Gospel
  • Good teaching

 

b.  You will benefit in life and the life to come

 

c.  Our source of strength and hope is in the living God

 

 

3.  Model the Good News

 

(1 Timothy 4:11–5:2, NLT) “Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.

 

a.  Teach

 

b.  Insist that everyone learn from the Bible

 

c.  Be an example of these things

4.  When a family cannot meet a need the church is to help meet those needs

 

(1 Timothy 5:2–16, NLT) “Take care of any widow who has no one else to care for her. But if she has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. This is something that pleases God.

 

a.  Families are the first responders

 

b.  Qualifications for helping

 

(1 Timothy 5:5, 9–10, NLT) “Now a true widow, a woman who is truly alone in this world, has placed her hope in God. She prays night and day, asking God for his help.

 

 

5.  Pastors should be respected and paid well

 

(1 Timothy 5:17, CEV) “Church leaders who do their job well deserve to be paid twice as much, especially if they work hard at preaching and teaching.

 

6.  Pastors should be accountable and protected

 

(1 Timothy 5:19–20, NLT) “Do not listen to an accusation against an elder unless it is confirmed by two or three witnesses. Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others.

 

 

7.  The method for appointing church leaders must align with the Bible

 

(1 Timothy 5:21–25, NLT) “Never be in a hurry about appointing a church leader.

 

  1. Pastors are to be sure the church functions properly

 

(1 Corinthians 14:40, NLT) “Be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

 

a.  Leaders Qualifications are in 1 Timothy 3

 

b.  Never be in a hurry

 

c.  There are obvious sins and hidden sins

 

 

8.  Pastor Tim was stressed out!

 

(1 Timothy 5:23, NLT) “Don’t drink only water. You ought to drink a little wine for the sake of your stomach because you are sick so often.

 

 

9.  Guard against materialism

 

(1 Timothy 6:3–10, NLT) “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

 

 

10.  Pastor, Honor God and Fulfill Your Calling!

 

(1 Timothy 6:20–21, NLT) “Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge. Some people have wandered from the faith by following such foolishness. May God’s grace be with you all.
